Roof Installation, Walsall

SJS Sheeting Ltd was requested to attend to the roof at the sports hall located at the above-mentioned campus. Upon inspection, it was apparent that the existing roof was an ACM type of roofing. Upon inspection of the existing asbestos management survey, no testing had been completed on the insulation board to the underside. The existing roof lights were damaged, and there was substantial water ingress into the building.

As this was a school building, our proposal included sample testing of the insulation board, the ACM Roof Panel, guttering, and parapet. Once the sample testing had been completed, the insulation board was found not to contain asbestos, so we were able to offer a cost-effective and time-sensitive solution.

We provided a solution to safely remove the ACM roof panels and replace them with a 120mm TATA Trisomet composite roof that achieved improved thermal efficiency. We also replaced the roof lights and the parapet guttering.

To safely complete the works, debris and safety nets were required on the underside of the roof. This was problematic, as the sports hall had a specialist sprung floor. Our specialist contractors installed the nets using aluminium scaffold towers.

We completed the work during the summertime shutdown period, which avoided disrupting general school and sports activities.

For the increased traffic for exam results days, our team stood down to ensure that there was no risk to students or staff created by any work traffic or by them inadvertently entering the area of work, which was also locked and barriered off from access.

Once completed, all internal areas were cleaned down appropriately, using a type H vacuum to ensure that any dust residues were completely removed.
